During the recent swearing in ceremony of the 11th Parliament of the Republic of Uganda, this man whom we now know as Papa Wemba caught the attention of millions as he entertained guests with his dress code and comical dance moves. He had followed the campaign trail of his current member of Parliament to the finish line before a smaller audience but on this particular day he was in the full view of the nation. He also says that he has been on several occasions bringing some gags, fundraising for churches and doing small gigs here and there.
The thing is; he has been at it. Remember when we talked about trusting the process ? He has been forming himself, growing and mastering his craft, defining himself and his unique characteristics, sharpening his act. He did not just land at Kololo airstrip on this day.
When you are in the gutters, remember that you are in preparation. You are being made and formed. You are being sharpened and you are becoming your best self such that when you emerge at different platforms , you’ll be ready for it. There is nothing small or minor about what you’re doing today. In fact, it is the building block to whatever you are constructing. But everything must be purposeful. Sometimes it may seem like you have been in this place doing this for ages but the difference is in the goal and in what you learn daily that contributes towards that goal. I was so excited when Papa Wemba said during the interviews that he should now be contacted for business through his manager. He recognised that the level had changed and the circumstances called for a change in operation. He was ready to move onto the next phase of conducting official business requiring a manager. Bravo!
Come to think of it. If a child is born before term, their lungs will not be mature enough to support them. They need to be under intensive care. Their body is not ready. While in the womb, their spine is forming, their heart is gaining strength, their lungs are forming, some of the senses coming up, their limbs are coming into shape. When the baby is born at term, under normal circumstances, they adapt fast to the environment because they are ready.
Just be consistent in your growth. There on your vending corner, in your recording room, in your study room, at your dance class or music studio, at your products stall, at your “small job”, shop, farm, on your healing journey, …. Be consistent and diligent while being a better person everyday than you were the previous day.
God bless you.
