Opportunity is Paramount for any creative mind, any genius, any dreamer in this world to live to their fullest potential. Sometimes people who are privileged say: “If you simply work hard and believe in yourself and follow your dreams, you can achieve anything you want to.” They are right. However, there is a difference that sets different people apart from others: opportunity.
Sometimes all anyone needs really is to have that door opened and get that foot into that door. At times all you really need is a chance to express your talent in the arena that other major players are, for another person to believe in you. Everyone who has come from the asked, gutters, dust, grass has this person.
I looked at this child and thought if he does not go far, it will be because he has been failed by government systems. The environment he is in will not expose him to the same educational tools as the rich kids who will become celebrated engineers and architects. But it will not be because they are better than him. It will only be because they had different opportunities.
Our leaders owe it to every child to try to level the field much as possible. It is difficult in a capitalist individualistic world I know; visibly so beginning from the world super powers to the “poorest” countries. There is always a group that earns certain spaces as if a birth right while others have to be exceptionally good to step into the arena.
Almost all the people who have risen from dust; from grass to grace have had someone offer them an opportunity – showing them the world beyond their limited confines, giving them tools to support their imagination.
You’ll be blessed for it if you are that person who offers a hand to help others up the ladder or to open a doorway or gate that leads into the light that they seek. You may be that conduit that someone needs to get to that light. You may hold the power to change someone’s life and turn it around forever.
