It’s 5am in Germany and beyond these walls, it looks like day time. I see light beaming through the blinds. Last evening we had a picnic till after 9 and the sun was still on the eastern horizon. My brain neurons are challenged every single day with what has been the time construct in my head; darkness announces night time by way of the sunset whereas a new day is marked with the sun rise. It’s all a construct. There is no definiteness but only what serves our senses. My culture as we know it has a time construct that’s marked by events and not merely the movement of the clock’s hand. Mother nature was kind to us.

My struggle now is this; it’s 5am and I can’t go back to sleep because the sun rays been through like it’s 10am. Yet it’s harder to go to bed at 9pm or 10pm before the sun sets completely.
Back at home we use the sun to say it’s morning, midday or it’s night time. Now I must use my watch/ the clock the way it was intended.
Now I know why in the movies they always say, “pull the blinds and go to sleep”. It’s because some people go to sleep when the sun is still out in the summer. I am told that the opposite happens during winter: the days are shorter and the “nights” are longer. My memory sometimes is foggy but I know that one of my teachers in high school mentioned this, only it didn’t register as it meant nothing at the time.
Enjoy your day people. Showers of blessings.
