Why don’t we hold men to the same moral standards as women ?

For so long people who claim to transform the world and get rid of toxic masculinity and the patriarchy that formulates rules to keep a firm grip on women. One thing though is subtly handled and that is the morality standards by which women are held and yet men are supposed to live a life of boundless freedoms.

Recently in a WhatsApp group someone posted a picture of a woman apparently caught by the husband cheating with someone in their bed. The question was; what do you do if you find your brother like this with your wife? Anyone can imagine the fury and outrage outpouring through the comments. I was pretty happy when another member asked, “What should a woman do if she finds her husband in the same situation?” Needless to say, the discussion was abruptly put to rest as no responses were made.

What I am asking myself still is, “Why do people expect a “partnership” to work where two partners are held to different moral standards ? Why do some societies still offer the burden of grounding a relationship to the women expecting everything including forgiveness that they themselves are incapable of forgiving?

Let me also mention that everyone in the group chat “is Christian”. And now my random thoughts:

1. So if the man commits adultery, his wife should forgive him so they can then both work for heaven. But if a woman does the same, the same Jesus can not forgive such and neither can the man( ??? and sighs)

2. When a man cheats on his wife, it is because the woman has not been a good wife to her husband. When the woman cheats, she is definitely a bad woman, an evil wife and a sacrilegious Christian.

There is no winning as a woman. But isn’t that all so sad ?

3. Why should two people go to the same alter for blessing of a union who are not walking the same path of righteousness? It appears that in communities that bear such a mindset, salvation is a right acquired by being pronounced a husbands whereas it remains aspirational to wives as they gain it by merit.
