Self love: Resisting compliments

Did you know that for most of us it is much easier to believe something negative spoken to bout us than it is to take on Some of us move through the world looking for confirmation that we don’t belong and are not good enough. In a pile of compliments and positivity when we suddenly hear the criticism, we jump right into it and decide, “I will keep my amour, I will continue to protect myself . This attitude is born from living your life on guard and always being ready with the defence because you’re accustomed to harsh weather. However there is so much brilliance in this world.

My suggestion; you know how to protect yourself in the storm but learn to embrace sunshine when it comes. Whatever ugly thing you were taught to believe about yourself doesn’t define you unless you let it. I know how such demons dig deep to the core of someone’s being. I know on some bad mornings you will feel like maybe they were right. Maybe am ugly indeed. Maybe I’ll actually amount to nothing. On those mornings, or afternoons or evenings, do not allow yourself to habor such thoughts any longer than a brief moment. Take a breath and let it pass – then speak positivity into your mind. Remind yourself of who you know you are and not who you were told that you are; of who God says you are and not who your psychological abuser says you are.

Rejecting compliments acts as a defensive tool. But you don’t have to be on guard all the time. You don’t have to keep thickening the walls around you. If you can free your mind of your own self prejudice and love yourself while alone, you can then find room for others and embrace others when you’re out of your room. Opening up is taking chances. Loving can be easy for a broken bird but accepting to be loved is the real call to courage.

Realise that you are worthy of all the good things that life has to offer. You deserve love, kindness, compassion, gifts and goodness. You are worth it. Be kind and gentle to yourself.
