If there is anything I admire most in any human being it is self control. You find poise and grace in a person who can control their impulses and are in charge of their emotions. When we act on our every impulse we become not a person with bad character but one with no character. It affects just how one expresses themselves, carries themselves, the decisions we make, the quick sands that we drown into, and especially how we graciously we deal with other people either with kindness and empathy or complete apathy.

Self control is strength. Calmness is mastery: Just because you feel angry doesn’t mean that you should lose your temper. You can be offended and yet refuse to compromise or retaliate. You don’t have to belch out every dirty or offensive thought. You don’t have to get on board with every feeling. Your impulses can not educate your intelligence if greatness is your aspiration or holiness your goal.
Take a minute always to chew on your thoughts and feelings a little. Does acting on it make you better? Does it move you towards your destiny? If not ignore it, resist it or act against it.
We as human beings have the power to be disciplined and to be in control.
Even when we are weak, we Christians believe that we have been given the Holy Spirit who inspires holiness in us, guides, directs and admonishes us. The more you commune with the Holy Spirit you grow to bring forth the fruit of the Holy Spirit among which is self control.
