Context

Everything we see, hear, our encounters, when put in a context under different circumstances, would change completely our view and stand. I believe in context but especially in reason. However, sometimes we don’t get enough time or enough room to share about context.

Every statement has a two parts; one is variable. Yesterday, while speaking to a group of students I said they shouldn’t allow to be exploited. I told them in one sentence that I refused a job where I was going to be paid pennies. Nosoomer had I sat down, than another professional rose up and encouraged them to take up opportunities even if they are not paying. I clapped for him because of the contextual differences in our statements.

He left a job in a rural setting and strategically placed himself in a position where he saw career prospects and so he was willing to earn pennies to achieve that goal. I, on the other hand, was in the city, in a place which offered no opportunities for learning and growth and paid pennies. And so I left for the most rural hospital where I exerted myself and emersed a wealth of experience while enjoying cheap healthy farm grown food. I still call that place my training ground, my Indian experience and yes it was gruelling at some points but rewarding in every way.

Whenever I listen to other people, I think about the part of what they are saying that is tied to a specific constant. When the variables change, then I am always personally ready to accept that my position on the matter then changes.

Reason and context.

When we listen to other people then, let’s chew, swallow, assimilate, sieve, and take some of it with a grain of salt.
