If you stop worrying about what you don’t have maybe you’ll appreciate what you do have.
Many times in life we are stuck in the dark places of our lives; the dirt corners, the undesirable family history, the failed dreams and unrealized goals, the hidden scars (physical, spiritual and/or emotional), the missteps, lost or never discovered love, unyielding talent or the perception of a lack of any talent.
There is so much beauty though if we look around intentionally. We simply need to allow ourselves to see the good that surrounds us and to enjoy it. The song goes; “Count your blessings name them one by one …….and it will surprise you what the Lord has done”.
It’s not all bad. Maybe yes, your life has been traumatic or your experiences have been difficult but there is some good. Come to think of it; a stranger offered you kindness and comfort through a loving smile or physical help, maybe your dad was evil but your mother was heaven’s angel or vice versa, your school experience was hurtful but you met a friend(s) for life or you were formed for the position you hold today.
We simply need grace to appreciate the blessings, the joys in our lives so that our days are not filled with gloom and sadness. Appreciating the small graces in life can only be accomplished it we quit focusing on everything that’s bad/ going wrong and all that we don’t have and focusing instead on what we do have. Then we shall live a life of gratitude. It is said that happiness is a state of mind and not a state of circumstances. If you can be happy and grateful with little, you will be even happier in plenty.
